The Hepworth Wakefield

The Hepworth Wakefield opened in 2011 and takes its name from artist and sculptor Barbara Hepworth who was born and educated in Wakefield. The gallery holds regular fairs and markets supporting artists and makers, as well as hosting an award-winning learning programme to engage and inspires families, communities and educational institutions.

The Hepworth Wakefield is also home to an impressive collection of modern art, including works by Ben Nicholson, Patrick Heron, L.S. Lowry, Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore as well as work by significant contemporary artists such as Frank Auerbach, Maggi Hambling, Anthea Hamilton, Martin Parr and Eva Rothschild. The gallery is also working on The Hepworth Wakefield Riverside Gallery Garden, which aims to be one of the UK’s largest free public gardens.

As part of our support for the gallery’s work and arts and culture in Wakefield we have supported schools visits, including transporting local art and design students to the gallery (for many, a first visit), working with them to produce individual proposals for a public art sculpture to be placed at Wakefield Kirkgate.
